Whitening with the Spa-Dent® System
Your smile is often the first thing people notice, and over time even well-cared-for teeth become stained and discoloured โ the result of everyday foods and beverages like coffee, tea, red wine, and berries, as well as aging and certain medications. At Long Lake Family Dentistry, we offer the Spa-Dent® whitening system, a Canadian-made, LED light-activated treatment used both in our office and as a custom take-home kit.
Spa-Dent's whitening gel uses hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide as its active whitening agents. As the peroxide breaks down, oxygen moves into the enamel and dentin and lifts staining compounds without changing the underlying structure of the tooth. Spa-Dent's blue and red LED light helps activate that peroxide, giving it "activating energy" that speeds up and improves the whitening process compared to gel used on its own. The gel itself is pH-neutral, contains no silica, and includes xylitol, which helps neutralize bacteria in the mouth.

Our Whitening Options
We offer two ways to use the Spa-Dent system, designed to fit your schedule and preferences:
In-Office Spa-Dent Treatment
The full in-office procedure takes about an hour. After a preparation period, the whitening gel is activated with the Spa-Dent LED light for a 20-minute cycle. Depending on how your teeth respond, a second 20-minute cycle can be added in the same visit for additional whitening.
Take-Home Spa-Dent Kits
For patients who prefer to whiten at home, Spa-Dent's take-home kits pair a fitted tray with the same pH-neutral whitening gel, available with or without the LED light attachment. Most people see visible results within days of starting a take-home kit.
What to Expect at Your Whitening Appointment
Consultation & Shade Assessment
We begin by evaluating your current tooth shade and discussing your whitening goals. We'll also check your gums and enamel to confirm you're a good candidate for whitening treatment.
Gum & Tooth Preparation
Your gums are carefully protected with a barrier to prevent gel contact. Your teeth are cleaned and dried to ensure even gel application.
LED-Activated Whitening
The Spa-Dent gel is applied evenly across your visible teeth and activated with the LED light for a 20-minute cycle, with a second cycle added if you and your dentist agree it would help.
Results & Aftercare Guidance
We reveal your new shade against the before shade to demonstrate the difference. You'll receive personalized guidance on foods and drinks to avoid in the first 48 hours, plus tips for maintaining your brighter smile long-term.
